Expert opinion

"Traditional strategic planning starts out so hopeful, but often ends in a static report that is out of date soon after it’s been finalized. Organizations that are able to incorporate agile philosophies and methodologies to their strategy and operations are better positioned to learn and adjust as needed to take advantage of opportunities and reduce risk."

The 3 phases of Strategic agility

Phase 1

This phase includes relevant document gathering and a review/refresh of your vision, mission, and values. We see benefit in bringing in stakeholder feedback (via focus groups, interviews and/or surveys) during this phase to contribute to the mission, vision, and values work. This will help you understand how your stakeholders feel about the current vision, mission and values as well as how you have lived up to them. We can also inquire on early thoughts on the strategic direction to support work in Phase II. Their responses can help us determine, among other inputs, whether the mission, vision and values require a major shift or minor tweaks. An optional environmental scan can be completed if external factors are changing quickly and may be leveraged for the benefit of your strategy.

Phase 2

This phase will include a series of workshops (number depending upon need and budget) where Realize guides you in creating, testing and refining possible strategic goals. This increases certainty that the strategic direction in question is “right” and provides agility to adjust and adapt as needed based on what is learned.

Phase 3

In this phase, we will:

  • Review the work completed and methodology, transferring knowledge about the process to you
  • Confirm the possible strategic goals that are viable based on Condition testing to date
  • Help you determine the next steps in solidifying and embedding these new strategic initiatives into your organization
