QMUNITY is a multi-million dollar non-profit with a mission to improve queer, trans, and Two-Spirit lives through services, connection and leadership. Realize was asked to help conduct an executive search to find a new executive director who would represent, advocate for, and enhance QMUNITY’s mission, vision, values, and community.

The challenge

QMUNITY needed a new executive director but lacked the capacity and experience to hire, onboard, and mentor a new executive director

QMUNITY was seeking a new Executive Director (ED) who would represent, advocate for, and enhance QMUNITY’s mission, vision, values, and community. However, the organization lacked the capacity and experience to independently search for, onboard, and mentor a new executive director.

The solution

Customized executive search and leadership coaching

Realize recognized that sourcing and hiring a great executive director is just one part of the executive search process. Helping QMUNITY onboard and mentor their new ED would be essential in helping the new leader reach their full potential and have a thriving partnership with the board.

Our approach and methodology

Realize conducted an executive search on behalf of QMUNITY. Utilizing the strong and expansive Realize candidate pool, strong candidates were carefully selected who aligned with QMUNITY’s requirements for the board’s consideration.

After the successful hiring of a new ED, Realize provided private leadership coaching to the new leader to support their transition and onboarding process. These weekly coaching sessions offered the new ED support in any difficult situations (e.g., union/staff/funder matters), and any additional training and support the leader or mentor identified as necessary for the role.

Coaching sessions provided the leader with a safe way to assess, recalibrate, and navigate to better outcomes, reducing organizational risk in the moment and future. The extended support also helped foster a strong foundation and rapport between the board incoming ED.
